    In 2001 Lietuvos Telekomas Provided Nearly a Half of the Total Support Given by Businesses to Education
    During the meeting of the Information Society Council held today at the President’s Office, the President of the Republic of Lithuania awarded certificates of gratitude to companies and organisations, including representatives of AB Lietuvos Telekomas, providing support for computerisation of Lithuanian schools. According to the data of the Ministry of Education and Science, AB Lietuvos Telekomas has been the leader among Lithuanian companies supporting education in 2001. Its support amounted to as much as 48 pert cent of the total support given by businesses to education. The Company has been implementing the education support programme Kompasas since 2000 and has already allocated more than 4 million Litas to it.

    The education support programme Kompasas of AB Lietuvos Telekomas is a result of close cooperation between the Company and the Ministry of Education and Science. When implementing this programme, the Company provides services and gives computer equipment to the education community, thereby creating favourable conditions for the use of modern means of information as well as for the improvement of IT skills. Lietuvos Telekomas launched Kompasas programme in August 2000 after signing an agreement with the Ministry of Education and Science. Under this agreement, within a period of three years the Company plans to allocate a total of 6 million Litas for education.

    This year the Company will continue implementation of its education support programme Kompasas. With regard to the schools’ computerisation priorities set by the Ministry of Education and Science, AB Lietuvos Telekomas has submitted proposals on the education support projects for the years 2002 – 2003. In the near future the Company and the Ministry of Education and Science will sign an agreement on implementation of these projects.
