The Lietuvos Telekomas Women’s Basketball Team to Focus its Muscle for the Euroleague

 
October 29th the Lietuvos Telekomas women’s basketball team, the multiple champion of Lithuania’s and Baltic States’ basketball leagues and the winner of multiple tournaments starts its new season setting the goal to get among the strongest women’s teams in the Euroleague.
 
“After the successful performance of Lithuania’s national women’s basketball team in the European selection games and getting to the finals to be held in Turkey in the Year 2005 we draw special attention to the women’s Euroleague games“, - stated Algirdas Paulauskas, the Chief Coach of the team.
 
The eight players of Lietuvos Telekomas team, who played in the Lithuania’s national women’s basketball team have been joined by Kathryn Douglas and Jennifer Derevjanik, vice-champions of WNBA, the strongest women’s basketball league in the world.
 
“The team of the present line-up is able to defeat the strongest contenders therefore I would like to invite everybody to support our team on November 23rd when we play against last year’s Euroleague champions” - stated A. Paulauskas.
 
The game will be broadcasted live by LTV 2, and the recording of the game will be repeated 11 p. m. on LTV.
 
This season the Lietuvos Telekomas team is going to play in three championships: the Lithuania’s national women’s basketball league, Baltic States women’s basketball league and women’s Euroleague.
 
The Lietuvos Telekomas women’s basketball team is the winner of seven championships of Lithuania’s national women’s basketball league. The Lietuvos Telekomas has not lost in the Lithuania’s national women’s basketball league for the fourth year in a row, totally – 126 games with no defeat. The team’s game in the Baltic States women’s basketball league is also impressive, where five seasons have been spent with no loss.
 
“Women’s basketball in Lithuania has got old traditions. Lithuanian women basketball players terrifically represent our country abroad. In some countries our players are even more well-known than in Lithuania. We wish the State dedicated more interest into women’s basketball. It would be a shame if we lost such an opportunity to represent Lithuania“, - emphasized Arvydas Tamaðauskas, General Manager of Lietuvos Telekomas Sports Club.
 
Three Lietuvos Telekomas players – Jurgita Ðtreimikytë-Virbickienë, Irena Baranauskaitë, and Jolanta Vilutytë are European champions. Eight players are members of Lithuania’s national women’s basketball team. Coaches Algirdas Paulauskas and Alfredas Vainauskas also coach the national team.
